BSA "Pay It Forward" Community Service Weekend was created by the North Star District of the Los Angeles Area Council. It brings all scouts together "under one roof", from all over the city, to provide community service to worthwhile organizations helping people in need. The event will be held the last weekend in June each year. Having a two-day project enables the participation of Scouts to attend either or both days.
One of the wonderful things the founder of scouting, Baden Powell, taught was that it is important for Boy Scouts to "Do a Good Turn Daily." The "Pay It Forward" Community Service Weekend takes this concept one step further by making this an organized, joint effort for all troops to work together to do their Good Turn.
The benefits are three-fold and multiplied tremendously by joining our forces together:
- WINNER - The social service organization and people whom they serve benefit.
- WINNER - The scouts benefit by seeing first hand the results of helping people in need.
- WINNER - The Boy Scout organization benefits because the community becomes aware of the magnitude of the Community Service Day and of what Boy Scouts teaches and represents.
We want this concept to catch on like wild-fire and spread from town to town, city to city, community to community! Please help us make this program a reality! Please help us to "PAY IT FORWARD" across this wonderful country of ours next year.
To assist you in preparing your own "Pay It Forward" weekend various materials are included on this website for your use. The next "Pay It Forward Weekend" is set for June 27 & 28, 2009.
